Where to Plan a Perfect Babymoon in Mexico
Babymoons — taking a trip to relax and spend time together before a baby arrives — are an emerging trend for expectant parents.

Having a baby is certainly a reason to celebrate. And it can also be a reason to plan a “babymoon:” a pre-birth vacation that provides soon-to-be parents with an opportunity to relax and spend time together before their little one’s big arrival. A variety of properties around Mexico offer venues with romantic vibes and health-conscious experiences that are ideal for expectant couples.

Babymoon packages are an obvious choice for couples looking for multiple amenities and services designed for their situation. Among the newest offerings is a package from Etereo, Auberge Resorts Collection, a luxury property located at Kanai, the Riviera Maya’s luxury resort development. The hotel’s babymoon package includes a three-course, pregnancy-friendly dinner on the beach; a “Bebestrology” session, during which the resort’s astrologist offers a glimpse of the baby’s potential future while using the Maya calendar; and a 60-minute prenatal massage designed to reduce fatigue and improve skin elasticity.

Parents-to-be looking for an upscale experience infused with traditions may also want to consider Chable Yucatan, which offers an Ixchel New Life massage — a prenatal treatment inspired by the Mayan goddess of fertility — and Chable Maroma, where couples can plan for a Baby Blessing Wave pre-birth ceremony with roots in Navajo traditions. Both properties also offer postpartum herbal healing baths.

In Puerto Vallarta, Casa Velas offers a babymoon package that includes spa treatments, personalized healthful dining options and even a book of baby names to provide inspiration for interesting monikers for new arrivals. Mothers-to-be will also receive body cream and a meal to take on the flight home, as well as a cleansing facial and a leg and foot massage.

Maranatha Lee, owner of Dallas-based travel agency Travel Queen, sees a lot of growth opportunities for the babymoon segment.

“Most resorts in Mexico do not offer a babymoon package but do offer honeymoon/anniversary packages,” she said. “I definitely think that's an opportunity for the industry.”

Most resorts in Mexico do not offer a babymoon package but do offer honeymoon/anniversary packages … I definitely think that's an opportunity for the industry.

While few hotels in Mexico have created full babymoon packages, many offer ideal settings, services and amenities for couples and advisors to create their own experience — and that’s where travel advisors can play a valuable role, according to Lee.

“As a travel advisor, it's important to know the destination and resort/hotel properties to give clients insight and expert knowledge, especially in this situation,” she said.

Lee mentions several properties in Mexico that have been a good fit for expectant couples, including Secrets Playa Blanca Costa Mujeres.

“It's the perfect place for my client and her husband to relax before welcoming their twins,” Lee said. “They will be able to enjoy the pools, beach, pickleball — that was a requirement — and food. Secrets can make mocktails for pregnant travelers, giving them the chance to enjoy the experience without feeling left out.”

Lee has also sent babymoon clients to Unico 20°87° Hotel Riviera Maya.

“It's one of my favorite resorts in Mexico,” she said. “It gives boutique vibes, even though it's a resort. Unico has a reputation for delicious food offerings, an intimate and calm beach and even a quiet pool to get away from the noise. Its entertainment is known to be refined, so it's the perfect atmosphere for couples wanting to have fun but relax, too.”

Other hotels that provide noteworthy options for parents-to-be include Conrad Punta de Mita, where Conrad Spa offers a Mom-to-Be Massage aimed at relieving stress and strains, as well as family bonding, meditation and detox sessions that include a temazcal experience. Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal, meanwhile, offers the Prenatal Harmony Massage, designed to promote circulation and well-being.

Also in Los Cabos is Vista Encantada Spa Resort & Residences, which has large suites as well as a spa and romantic fine-dining venues such as the rooftop Mestizo del Mar. Nearby, Acre allows couples to reconnect with nature, offering landscaped gardens, accommodations set in 13 “treehouses” and free morning yoga sessions for all guests. In the heart of Cabo San Lucas, Corazon Cabo Resort & Spa is another memorable property for couples, with its stylish rooftop pool and lounge, as well as an attractive spa.

Farther south, at The Westin Resort & Spa, Puerto Vallarta, couples can join new seaside meditation and yoga sessions, as well as safely indulge thanks to the property’s new mocktail program.

On the Caribbean coast, options include Grand Fiesta American Coral Beach Cancun All Inclusive Spa Resort, where romantic dinners and spa treatments at the 40,000-square-foot Gem Spa are among the draws. Guests who reserve an Infinite Club Suite at the property receive perks such as access to the Infinite Club lounge, two hydrotherapy treatments, roundtrip ferry tickets to nearby Isla Mujeres and a choice of two personalized resort experiences — with options such as dinner at Le Basilic restaurant, a private cabana dinner in the hotel’s garden or on the beach, or a romantic dinner at the spa.

Also in Cancun is the soon-to-open all-inclusive Ava Resort Cancun, where expectant couples can indulge in spa treatments. Couples who already have kids and want to bring them along, meanwhile, can make use of the bowling alley, kids club and teen game room.

Luxury rental brand Onefinestay can also help travel advisors plan babymoon-themed vacations, with upscale services such as private chefs and cooking classes, private yacht excursions and yoga and pilates sessions. And there’s enough space to bring additional family members at Onefinestay’s properties, which include the three-bedroom Casa de Las Palmas in Cabo San Lucas and three-bedroom Casa Bonita in the Riviera Maya.
