Scenic Tours, which operates on-land coach tours, began in 1986 in Melbourne, Australia. The company quickly expanded, and in 2008 began a new chapter of river cruises with a fleet of "space-ships," so-named because of the large amount of space provided to each passenger. The exception is the Scenic Tsar, which is based in Russia and is much smaller than the space-ships. Scenic Cruises was the first Australian-owned river cruise ship company. The Scenic cruises are almost entirely all-inclusive, with meals, gratuities, shore excursions and sometimes airfare included in the price of the cruise.
