Tauck has unveiled its latest initiative, "Smaller Group" tours, with the aim of providing more intimate and immersive experiences for travelers. The offering builds on the success of the tour operator's Small Group tours, which have seen a significant rise in popularity.

Tauck's Smaller Group journeys will cater to an average of just 15 guests per departure, compared to the 24 guests typically accommodated in Small Group trips. The new structure was piloted this year with initial departures for three tours: America’s Canyonlands, A Week In Spain and A Week In Ireland.

“Although a large segment of our guests remain devoted to our classic group size, we’ve also seen incredible growth in our Small Group departures over the past several years,” said Dan Mahar, CEO of Tauck. “More recently, some of our guests have shown increasing interest in even smaller group sizes. Our market research has zeroed in on an optimal group size of 12-20 among those interested in smaller groups, so our average group size of 15 travelers is right in the center of that sweet spot.”

Though the rollout of Smaller Group tours is officially underway, the official launch of the program is scheduled for Tauck's 100th anniversary in 2025. This tour segment will eventually encompass 124 departures across 12 itineraries in North America, Europe and Africa.

Mahar highlighted the specific appeal of smaller group travel, emphasizing the desire for deeper connections with destinations and fellow travelers.

"Smaller groups have access to places and experiences that simply aren’t available to larger groups," Mahar said. "On our African safaris, for example, our Smaller Groups stay in cozy lodges and tented camps with limited capacity, minimizing disruptions to the wildlife and environment, and providing a more authentic experience.”

This new offering also aligns with Tauck's overarching "Small is Big" philosophy, which has guided the company's product portfolio in recent years. This philosophy extends beyond land journeys to encompass European river cruises and small ship ocean cruises, where Tauck prioritizes intimate experiences with fewer guests.
